You Will Stay on Schedule

The biggest hurdle in achieving your exercise goals is simply getting to the gym. We get it! You are all snuggled up in your warm house with 1,000 hours of Netflix shows to watch, and the gym can seem like a million miles away. Setting a specific workout schedule with a friend, or just planning to go to the gym together on a certain day of the week will help keep you on schedule. According to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Aberdeen, having a workout partner or exercising with a friend helps increase the amount of time a person spends at the gym and how frequently they exercise. Finding an emotionally supportive workout buddy will improve your results even more!

More Motivation

“One more set,” “You can do it,” Just one more lap!” These kinds of phrases are tools that trainers utilize to keep you motivated. The idea of only having to push through one more set or finishing a workout or exercise strong can help you achieve more personal bests and workout goals than ever before. Having a workout buddy can help fill that same motivational role. Not only will your workout buddy help you by encouraging you to go further, work harder, and stay motivated, but their strengths will drive you to do better as well. For the competitive exercisers out there, working out with a friend who is faster than you, stronger than you, or more well versed in exercises can be a huge motivator in the gym. If you are less competitive, your friends can help motivate you by encouraging you and helping you stay on track with positive reinforcement.

It is Just Plain Fun

We have all been that person at the gym with our headphones in and our eyes on the prize. There is, of course, a time and a place for this. Maybe you are trying to sneak a quick morning workout in or you are really focusing on a specific exercise, and that is all good and well. Having a friend in the gym to talk with and joke with is just plain fun! Sharing a few laughs between sets or having a lively conversation during your cardio will keep your mind off your body, allowing you to push yourself further. You will be surprised by how much a simple conversation can help take your mind off your perceived physical limitations.

Having a workout buddy is one of the best ways to stay on track and to stay motivated at the gym. If you struggle with hitting your workout goals or if you just want to make your exercises more fun, bring a friend into your workout plans! We also offer a wide variety of workout classes and engaging personal training sessions that will push you to new physical heights.
