The first day of spring is finally here and even if it doesn’t feel like it yet, sunny days are right around the corner. With spring starting, it is time to get shake off the winter rust and get back into the swing of exercising. The most difficult hurdle to overcome is simply getting started. We’ve all heard Newton’s Law that an object in motion tends to stay in motion, and the same can be said for one at rest. That law applies to our mentality and physical output as humans. If you have stayed active all winter long, chances are that you will jump right back into spring exercises. If the winter was more of a time of relaxation for you, it may be harder for you to hit the ground running. If you want to get back into exercising and establish healthy habits for spring, come into your local Five Seasons Family Sports Club to meet with one of our expert trainers to set up achievable goals. Here are three tips to get you up and running this spring!
1. Start Small
If you haven’t been exercising much over the winter, the worst thing you can do for your body is to jump straight into intense workouts. By pushing your body too hard too early in the season, you can easily injure yourself and leave yourself unable to exercise. The only thing harder to bounce back from than a long period of rest is a physical injury. The best way to get back into your workout routine this spring is by simply cutting back your normal workouts. Start small by cutting your normal workout time in half, but back on the weight for your lifts, and make sure that you spend at least 15 minutes stretching and warming up your muscles.
2. Try a New Class
One of the hardest parts of any workout is deciding what to do on any given day. Taking a class takes all of the hard work of creating a great workout out of your hands. The elite trainers here at Five Seasons offer a wide variety of classes ranging from beginners yoga classes to expert boot camp sessions. No matter what your fitness level is, there is a perfect class that is just waiting for you.
3. Find a Workout Buddy
Finding the motivation to get out and go to the gym can be tough, especially if it has been a long time since you’ve exercised. If you are struggling to get yourself out and moving again, you should try finding a friend to exercise with. Having a friend waiting for you to show up to the gym to workout with them will provide you plenty of motivation to get out of the house and back in action. Not only will they get you to the gym, but they can even motivate you to push yourself further. If you are competitive, having a workout buddy will push you to exceed your workout goals, and if you are more of a conversational exerciser, your friend will help you keep your mind off the exercise and you may even exercise for longer.
Remember that if you haven’t worked out in a while to not push yourself too hard. It can be hard to establish a routine without help. At Five Seasons, our expert trainers are here to help you not just achieve your fitness goals but to surpass them.
