Tennis is a game that can be won or lost in your mastery of some simple mechanics of the game. Namely, your serves, speed, ability to recover, and overall technique can carry you through even the toughest of matches. Of course, even tennis masters can benefit from a few helpful tips and tricks to improve. The reality is that one of the best ways to improve your overall tennis game is by getting back to basics and making sure that you have a firm mastery of the fundamentals. If you are looking to improve your overall tennis game, come into your local Five Seasons Family Sports Club today to meet with one of our elite tennis trainers or our expert staff members.

Exaggerate Your Follow Through

We talk a lot about prep and preparing for your opponent’s play style and mastering counters can do wonders for your game. One of the things that is often overlooked is the importance of your follow through.  Having an exaggerated follow through not only allows you to focus on proper technique, but it can actually help you cut down on potential injuries.

Hit and Recover

When you are in the heat of an intense rally, the last thing you want to do is gloat and take pride in a good hit. That moment of self-admiration can easily turn into a missed shot when your opponent actually returns the shot you thought they couldn’t reach. That is why it is important to always hit and recover. The moment the ball leaves your racket you need to reset your feet and get ready for a tough shot to come back at you. There is plenty of time to celebrate great shots after the game, or even at the end of the rally.

Speed Drills

Finding ways to increase your reach on the court is one of the best ways to improve your overall gameplay and ability to win points. You can, of course, improve your cardiovascular ability by jogging, running, and training your speed, but not all speed drills are created equal. When you think about how tennis is played, you can clearly see the types of drills that are the most beneficial. Tennis is a game of short sprints, which is why interval training is immensely helpful for tennis training. Try sprinting for 30 seconds, take a minute break, and go again. The quicker you get your sprints, the better your footing will be. You can also do the Four Ball Pickup drill by putting a ball on all four corners of the court and sprinting for each. Once you grab each ball, bring it back to the baseline and reset for the next.

When it comes to improving your tennis game, there is no substitute for time spent training with experts. Our elite tennis trainers work with you to find the best drills and training techniques to take your tennis game to the next level. Come in today to see how you can quickly and efficiently master the game of tennis.
