5 Friendly Ways to Increase Your Water Intake

Posted by Five Seasons Family Sports Club on 11/21/17 9:00 AM

As science has exhaustively proven, drinking enough water is one of the building blocks of a truly healthy lifestyle. After all, dehydration and mental tiredness are just some of the immediate side-effects one can experience if not abiding by this rule. However, drinking enough water is often easier said than done, as our minds have a tendency to wander and disregard what's good for us on a daily basis. For that reason, here are five excellent tips to help get that H2O into your system:

1. Carry a Water Bottle with You at All Times

This one's pretty self-explanatory. Unless you're going to a formal meeting or special event, chances are that having a water bottle on you is not going to be frowned upon. This is the easiest and best way to stay hydrated while on-the-go, and can help you keep track of your daily water intake. Feel free to customize the bottle any way you want or even add specific "water goals" that you intend to accomplish with a magic marker.

2. Use an App to Follow Your Progress

In this day and age, employing technology to improve your life is easily achievable if you know your way around a smartphone. A plethora of apps such as Waterlogged and Daily Water can aid you in maintaining your necessary daily water intake. They also store and analyze your water consumption, so after a few days of use you'll have a much better idea about your own drinking habits.

3. Eat more Water-Rich Foods

A common mistake that people make about water is assume that unless they're drinking pure H2O, they're not getting their fill of this precious substance. In reality, however, water-rich vegetables such as cucumbers, salad greens and fruits such as grapefruit and watermelon still have the power to adequately hydrate your body if consumed in the right amounts. That being said, make sure you don't end up neglecting your actual water while enjoying these delicious foods.

4. Work Out Regularly

It may seem counterintuitive at first since working out does dehydrate the body, but going to the gym and exercising regularly will make you crave water naturally. In fact, if you visit a popular gym like the Five Seasons Family Sports Club, you'll notice that pretty much everyone is carrying a water bottle with them and drinking copious amounts during their workouts.

5. Use a Straw

Finally, studies have shown that simply putting a straw in your glass or bottle can be immensely beneficial for boosting your water intake. That's because drinking through a straw is more efficient than picking up a glass and tilting it back, requiring less effort and making it easy for your body to take in bigger gulps. So be sure to pop one into your water whenever you get the chance.

Regardless of your age and constitution, drinking enough water is an important part of life, which is why it can be helpful to take a moment and see where you could stand to improve your H2O intake and then implement the aforementioned tips into your daily routine. You'll be surprised at how much better you'll feel in just a matter of days.
