Detox water has become all the rage in the health and fitness world, and for good reason: Not only is it a fantastic tool to help you lose weight, but it's a delicious and refreshing way to keep yourself hydrated while flushing toxins from your system. For the uninitiated, detox water is basically cold water that has been infused with natural flavors by way of immersing any variety of fruits, vegetables and/or herbs into it. If you're ready to add this flavorful treat to your dieting repertoire, below are five detox water recipes that are sure to please.

1. Strawberry Mint and Watermelon Detox Water

Watermelon is the quintessential summer fruit because of its wonderfully refreshing taste, and it boasts several important health benefits as well. Studies have shown that watermelon can help relieve muscle soreness, improve insulin response and regulate blood pressure. And strawberries are no slouch, either – they're loaded with antioxidants that help protect your cells from free radical damage.

What to Add to Your Water:

  • 4 cups of half-inch watermelon cubes (lightly mashed)
  • 1/2 pint of halved strawberries
  • 6 sprigs of lightly crushed mint

2. Apple Cinnamon Detox Water

First popularized by Audrey Johns back in 2012, this world-renowned infused water drink is a nutritional powerhouse. Apples contain important antioxidants and phytonutrients, and cinnamon is well-known for its ability to lower blood sugar and reduce the risk of heart disease.

What to Add to Your Water:

  • 1 thinly sliced apple (be sure to take the seeds out)
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Note: It's much better to use cinnamon sticks versus powdered cinnamon, as the latter can become clumpy in the water.

3. Cucumber Lemon Detox Water

Cucumbers are rich in skin-friendly minerals such as potassium, magnesium and silicon, and lemons are well-known for their ability to purge toxins from your system. Lemons can also improve digestive health, which is a key factor in helping you to lose weight.

What to Add to Your Water:

  • 1/2 of a cucumber, sliced (you can peel it or leave the skin on)

  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • A couple of sprigs of mint

4. Raspberry Orange Detox Water

Raspberries are one of the most antioxidant-rich fruits on the planet, and they are considered by many nutritionists to be a "superfood." Oranges contain generous amounts of Vitamin C, which is well-known for its ability to fight inflammation, curb premature aging and fortify your immune system.

What to Add to Your Water:

  • 1 pint of lightly crushed raspberries

  • 1 thinly sliced orange

5. Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Water

You can't have a detox discussion without mentioning apple cider vinegar. This versatile natural ingredient is revered for its ability to flush toxins from the body, particularly in the blood and liver. Combine it with the cleansing properties of lemon and lime, and you've got yourself a potent elixir that can reduce bloat, boost your metabolism and leave you feeling energized and refreshed.

What to Add to Your Water:

  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 lime, sliced
  • 4-5 mint leaves

Note: If you're not a fan of the strong taste of apple cider vinegar, try easing into it by only adding one tablespoon at first, and then gradually increasing the amount as you get used to how it tastes.

Drinking plenty of water is essential to maintaining healthy digestion and an efficient metabolism, but it doesn't have to be the same old thing every time. Use the detox water recipes above to add a little extra fun, flavor and nutritional value to your weight loss efforts.
